Francesca Mereu was born and raised in Sorgono, in what is almost the geographical center of Sardinia. She works full time as a farmer and a miller. Thanks to a European fund, she was able to set up a laboratory and warehouse on the outskirt of the village, and thus funded Il raccolto di Merea, who aims to close the value chain from growing the cereals to selling finished products to her clients.
Her father, Mauro Mereu, was a farmer throughout his life, and is the other pair of hands behind the enterprise. Together they cultivate over 40 ha of summer wheat, farrum… which Francesca transforms into flour, biscuits, …
They grow this and that. in this rotation. All is rainfed.
The cereals grow well. they are harvested by her father with… and then are cleaned by… and transported to the mill and deposit. She produces the flour herself.
The flour is then used to prepare sweets, by Francesca. Another part is brought to a mill in Árthana (but they exchange the products when they both come to Núgoro, which happens frequently), which extrudes the pasta sorts. She intends to buy an extruder and prepare the pasta herself.
Many troubles with chickpeas.
She will try cicerchia.
